Orcutt
ABOUT
Orcutt is a town of Santa Maria, it is unincorporated and located in the Santa Maria Valley of Santa Barbara County.
HISTORY
Orcutt was named for William Orcutt, a manager of Union Oil, he was the manager of the Geological, Land and Engineering departments. Orcutt was known as the Dean of Petroleum and discovered pools of asphalt and prehistoric animal bones in the pools.
GEOGRAPHY
Orcutt is approximately 11 square miles got its start as a townsite for oil field workers which is primarily flat with some rolling hills.
CLIMATE
Orcutt has great weather, which is close to that of Nipomo, the best weather in America with an average temperature of right at 70 degrees. Summertime can have days in the 80’s and 90’s but more days closer to 75. Winter months will have lows in the 40’s for the most part.
DEMOGRAPHICS
Orcutt has approximately 32,000 residents and around 11,000 households in about 11 square miles of primarily flat land with some rolling hills.
ECONOMY
Orcutt is primarily single family homes with some multi-residential and commercial properties mainly located on Clark and Broadway streets with Grocery stores and pharmacy being the largest tenants with several mom and pop shops and restaurants in this district.
CULTURE/LIFESTYLE
Orcutt is a small area located in south Santa Maria with a country type feeling with primarily local shops and restaurants with a homey feel like Kays and Orcutt Burgers, which are some of the best burgers on the Central Coast. Orcutt has a small commercial infrastructure but everything you need is in Santa Maria a few miles to the north.
THINGS TO DO
Some of the great places to visit or do Santa Maria and Orcutt is Waller Park, which is huge, has sports courts, disc golf and plenty of ducks and geese to watch. Orcutt offers many places to hike, bike and walk like Orcutt trails, Orcutt hills, Rice Ranch open space, etc.
EVENTS
Orcutt is small but packed with things to do like the weekly farmers market on Tuesdays near CVS, Christmas parade, annual Enchilada sale, wine tasting, Scarecrow festival, etc.
REAL ESTATE
Orcutt has a smaller amount of multi-residential throughout the area and minimal commercial mainly located on Clark and Broadway streets with only a couple larger big box style buildings that have grocery, pharmacy and discount stores like Smart & Final. There are a few mobile home parks here, some are age restricted but are highly sought after due to their location and amenities. The single-family residence market ranges from $400,000 to $2,000,000 with the median home price range at $600,000.
