Shell Beach

ABOUT

Shell Beach is a community located within the city of Pismo Beach, it is the northern portion along the coast and 101 freeway basically from Dinosaur Park to Pirates Cove and a couple sub-communities within. A small tight knit beach community with a few local shops and restaurants within the walking district on Shell Beach Road.

HISTORY

Shell Beach has a vast history from being a Chumash village near Placentia and Palomar streets where many artifacts have been found. Then it was farmed as pea fields and then one owner … bought 41 acres and divided the parcel up and sold the first 456 lots, but it took him 20 years and sold them as low as $195.

GEOGRAPHY

Shell Beach is primarily flat from Dinosaur park to Pirates Cove along the 101 freeway.

CLIMATE

Being a small beach community that does not stretch inland the only micro-climtes are north to south along this narrow strip of land referred to as Shell Beach.

DEMOGRAPHICS

Shell beach has minimal multi-family and commercial primarily on or just off Shell Beach road that runs parallel to the 101 freeway. There are small mom and pop businesses and restaurants that support the local community and a small tourist trade that gravitates to this small, quaint and enjoyable community that has some of the best locations for photography and sunsets on the central coast.

ECONOMY

Most of Shell Beach economy is from within the community supporting local vendors and store owners. There is a large amount of secondary homes that are used for vacationing or weekend homes from mostly warmer climates in California.

CULTURE/LIFESTYLE

Being a small, tight beach community much of the locals enjoy living in this piece of paradise due to the exclusivity and walking area to dine and recreate within the area they live in.

THINGS TO DO

There are lots to due with many parks, beaches, water sports and activities throughout the year to keep you busy. If you enjoy hiking the Pismo Preserve is basically across the street where you can hike for hours and never do the same trail twice. Stand up paddleboarding and kayaking is popular here due to the calmness of the sea most of the time and the Dinosaur caves.

EVENTS

There are many events in Shall Beach, Pismo Beach and the local cities to keep you busy all year round. Art in the park, movie night, clam festival, surf and turf events and the list goes on.
